2008 Brian King Sand Car KSC #72

I’m selling my 2008 Turbo, Intercooled, King Sand Car (KSC Car #72). The first owner (S.M.) ordered and had this car built in 2008. It has every option Brian King offered and then some! This is number 72 of ~ 80 cars Brian King built. He implemented all the latest reliability and performance upgrades. Brian’s background in sprint car racing translated into the design of his sand cars. This car has incredible acceleration (Turbo) and was designed to drift/slide in the sand.

I bought the car in 2014 and have made numerous upgrades and I’ve enjoyed driving this car for the past 12 years. My time in the dunes have changed and I have decided to sell this car and pass it along to the next owner who wants to have a ton of fun and thrills in the dunes.
I’ll share how another KSC owner once described these particular cars. “If you like to performance drive.. drift, crest, transition, and otherwise scream through the dunes at top speed with your hair on fire and a grin full of sand do your research. I have friends with all sorts of different Hayabusa powered cars. We all admire the King cars for how well they are built, but mostly for how incredibly well they handle in the dunes. The King is the undisputed best handling car in the dunes. I love all the Hayabusa cars for different reasons, but because I like performance driving, I bought a King.”

My drive time (engine hours) per year has been light and have averaged 12-14 hours per year. I drive this car in a manner to have fun and yet ensure the long-term reliability. Over 80% of my drive time is at St. Anthony’s Dunes, the remaining time has been at Glamis. The car is always stored in my garage year-round and covered. I don’t know that you will not find a more meticulously maintained sand car than this one.

Engine Specs
• 2017: A complete new Gen 1 motor build from the ground up by Scott Horner of Heads Up Performance. I have extensive notes and invoices documenting all the components and special work done. I can share that at your request. Example: Crankshaft treatment: Magnaflux, straighten, chamfer oil ports, Ion Nitride, micro polish, and balance. Installed MTC pistons, Wossner Rods, all ARP stainless case and head bolts, welded back torque limiter, oil baffles, and modified back cut gears.
• Scott is well-known in the racing community not only for riding but also for his mastery of the mechanical side of high-boost, turbocharged Hayabusa platforms. He is a prominent land speed racer and Suzuki Hayabusa specialist who has held multiple FIM Land Speed World Records.
Engine Tuning
• 2021: Complete new engine tuning done by Chris Valdez at DRS Motorsports in La Habra. Chris installed a new Cosworth Pectel SQ6 ECU for high performance engine system management. Includes an integrated actively controlled lambda sensor. This system has unlimited tuning ability. All new engine sensors for optimum control, new DRS custom built engine harness assembly that greatly improves signal integrity and reliability.
• Turbo system built by Conde Racing and Heads up Performance featuring EFI Technology Fuel control
• ECU has 4 selectable boost calibration setting (independent maps) with confirmed dyno performance measured (dyno charts available at request from 2021 Tuning Sessions showing peak hp). Ranges from 238 to 299 hp at rear wheels
• I use Modes(M) 2 and 3 depending on dunes.
o M1:6-7 psi: 238 hp, M2:9-11 psi: 262 hp, M3:12-13 psi: 285 HP, M4:15 psi: 299 HP
