Duties & Responsibilities

· Design and develop new high-power analog and digital LED and power control circuit boards for Baja Designs and sPOD products

· Use LTSpice for pre and post design analysis

· Maintain lifecycle of current designs – monitoring component end of life, evaluating component alternates, and determining product specifications

· Live circuit testing and debugging

· Perform maintenance of accurate and organized BOMs

· Collaborate with the firmware, thermal, optical, and mechanical engineers on present and future designs

· Provide clear information to the Engineering and Product Development team regarding electrical product and component tests, status of 3rd party electrical designs, electro-mechanical design interfacing, and firmware-application-hardware interfacing

· Understand and apply basic heat transfer and thermal property practices of metals and PCB constructions

· Evaluate and test theoretical LED quantifications through real world testing

· Perform physical assembly creation for in-house prototyping

· Work with contract manufacturers and the purchasing team to identify alternate components to prevent supply chain disruption

· Work with and train Production team on new product designs

· Design and maintain PCB testing and MCU programming fixtures

· Maintain test specifications and procedures for all circuit board designs

· Provide Product Development team with accurate timelines and lists of deliverables for electrical designs to maintain product launch schedules

· Keep up with electronic advancements and look at ways to implement them into current and future designs

· Work with Customer Support, Sales, and Warranties departments to troubleshoot customer issues and use feedback to improve future Baja Designs and sPOD products

· Coordinate the schedule and deliverables of 3rd party partners to increase product output

Requirements & Qualifications:

· Background in lighting and/or automotive electronics design

· Some travel is required (~10%) to meet with clients, suppliers, tradeshows, and industry events

· Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours (testing lights at night, support other departments, industry events/shows, meet deadlines, etc.) (~10%)

· Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field

· 5+ years experience in PCB and PCBA design and layout. Experience must be current and relevant to job description

· 3+ years in circuit analysis through simulation using LTSpice

· 3+ years of experience in designing low voltage analog designs

· 3+ years of experience in digital designs

· 3+ years of Altium Schematic Capture and PCB Design

· 2+ years in PCB Manufacturing and CM Coaching experience

· Be able to design with the understanding of the relationship between hardware and firmware

· Excellent attention to detail and precision

· Exceptional diagnostic and problem-solving skills

· Ability to adapt to file structure and maintain file organization with revision changes

· Ability to communicate electrical concepts and design decisions to non-electrical engineers

· 4+ layer PCB Design Experience (preferred)

· Embedded hardware and PCB design experience (preferred)

· Pspice simulation analysis (preferred)

· Altium simulation anaylsis (preferred)

· CID (Certified Interconnect Designer) and or CID+ certifications (preferred)

· C++, C experience (preferred)

Pay Range:

$90,000 - $110,000/year, depending on qualifications

Reports To: Southern California Division Production Engineer

Location: San Marcos, CA – On Site

Key Responsibilities:
· Work with Manufacturing Engineering and New Product Development Engineering to develop and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness of Baja Designs and sPOD products.
· Manage or participate in any or all manufacturing projects related to new or existing products.
· Provide technical support to San Marcos and Toluca production teams to resolve component manufacturing and finished good assembly issues to improve product quality.
· Conduct time studies and workflow analysis to streamline operations in Toluca and San Marcos production areas.
· Develop, update, and implement quality control procedures and standards to ensure suppliers and products meet specifications.
· Assist Toluca, MX manufacturing facility with quality standards and guide team on management of component quarantine.
· Review and update manufacturing drawings for tolerances, critical dimensions, and pertinent information based on manufacturing needs.
· Create wiring harness diagrams, BOMs, and source components.
· Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address quality issues tied to Baja Designs and sPOD finished good products and components.
· Work with Product Development and New Product Development Engineering to validate vehicle specific kit fitment issues tied to model year updates or manufacturing deviations.
· Sample inspection and approval of die cast parts, injection molded parts, and sheet metal parts.
· Create work instructions for Production, Customer Support, Purchasing, Marketing and Sales departments.
· Establish, define, and document standards for die casting, injection molding, hard coating, powder coating, anodizing, pressure tests, sheet metal fabrication, component performance testing, and other processes used by Baja Designs and sPOD products.
· Proactively assist Purchasing, Operations, Production, Shipping through unexpected production disruptions that jeopardize throughput.
· Coordinate with New Product Development Engineering and Purchasing teams to design and maintain fixtures for contract manufacturers, assembly lines, and QC stations.
· Assist in setting up new assembly processes for new products, wiring, and circuit boards.

Requirements & Qualifications:
· Must be an automotive and lighting enthusiast.
· Must have experience working on cars, trucks, UTVs, and/or motorcycles.
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
· Some travel is required (~10%) to meet with Toluca (MX) manufacturing team, clients, suppliers, tradeshows, and industry events.
· Willingness to occasionally work flexible hours (testing products at night/on weekends, support other departments, industry events/shows, meet deadlines, etc.) (~10%).
· (2-5) years Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering related work experience.
· Experience with SolidWorks.
· Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
· Strong organizational skills.
· Ability to self-prioritize, take ownership of responsibilities, and meet agreed task due dates.
· Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions while also being able to work with little to no supervision.


Preferred Qualifications:
· Relevant work experience in automotive or lighting fields.
· Experience working with die casting, injection molding, 3d printing & scanning, sheet metal fabrication, and CNC machining.
· Experience working with SMT lines.
· Material (die cast aluminum, O-rings, plastics, stainless steel, mild steel) and coatings (powder coat, screen printing, anodizing, marine, zinc plating) properties knowledge.

Pay Range:

What the Operations Manager at Baja Designs will do:
The Operations Manager will plan and oversee the daily manufacturing, quality control, warehousing and fulfillment operations of the organization to ensure goals and objectives are achieved. Directs and coordinates activities of the Production and Warehouse departments in processing materials, manufacturing products, and fulfilling customer orders by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Core Responsibilities:
• Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates to plan department operations.
• Plan and organize daily activities related to production and operations including warehouse (receiving and shipping department) as well as production and component planning / procurement responsibilities.
• Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.
• Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications.
• Directs daily / weekly production meetings, ensure subordinate supervisors attend and/or are notified.
• Set production goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and people development.
• Ensure manufacturing standards/ KPI´s are in place and used to measure performance daily.
• Measures productivity by analyzing performance data, financial data, and activity reports.
• Develop strategies to increase productivity and set long term goals.
• Coordinates with other support departments such as human resources, finance, engineering, sales, marketing, customer service, and logistics to ensure successful production operations.
• Determines labor needs to meet production, planning and warehouse goals.
• Assists with budget preparation for operations unit.

What You Bring to the Team
