This Ford Ranger was bought brand-new in 1986 by my dad at the now defunct Foulger Ford in Arcadia, California and he owned it until his death in 2015. I inherited it in 2015 and transferred the title into my name.
Shortly after buying it in 1986, my dad had it built into a prerunner. Modifications include: Front and Rear Dual Shocks and Shock Towers, Disk Brakes all around, Sandy Cone Industries Full Floater Ford 9 inch Rear End, Fuel Safe Fuel Cell, Bumpers and Skid Plate, Flared Fiberglass Fenders and Box Flare Quarter Panels, Spare Wheel Bed Mount and Aluminum 8” Wide Wheels with 295/75R16 BF Goodrich All-Terrain Tires. The updated “facelift” grill was added when the 1989 Ranger came out.
It retains the original 2.9L Fuel Injected V6 with an automatic transmission. The body panels are very clean with very few dents that I’ve noticed. However, some of the paint is chipping and there is some surface rust. There appears to be no major rust issues. The glass is good with the exception of the windshield, which is cracked. There is a 2” hitch receiver hidden under the flip-up license plate.
The carpet looks good and the seats show some wear. The top of the dash has been scorched from the sun and the headliner is drooping.
I bought a new battery, filled the tank with a few gallons of gas and have attempted to start it. It turns over and I hear the fuel pump operating but does not fire up. I’m not a mechanic and have not attempted to troubleshoot and fix it.
My dad started racing off-road in the 1970’s. He used this truck to pre-run the Baja 1000 from the late 80’s until his retirement from racing in the mid 90’s. He owned it until his death in 2015, at which point I inherited it. It hasn’t been driven it since 2011. It has been registered as planned non-operational since it was parked and there are no DMV back fees owed. I have the clean California title in my name.
