This Ranger was professionally built by Chris Freas of Killer Off-road Fabrication in Simi Valley, CA. It started out as a customer build, but the customer couldn’t continue financially. Chris finished it for himself and raced it several times with great success. He is starting a new business, which is taking most of his time, and will use the funds from this truck to help launch it. Chris describes this as a “comfortable race truck, it won’t beat you up”. After races he said he was ready for more. Interior space has been optimized and can accommodate larger/taller drivers. Chris built the roll cage out of 1.75” tubing and is fully tig welded.
Power comes from a 425ci LS3 built by CBM Motorsports. It has 600+ reliable horsepower, thanks in part to the optional Callies crank. The intake was built by CBM and is connected to a cabin mounted engine air filter. Custom 1 7/8” headers and exhaust with heat wrap. The FB Performance Pro Max Competition Turbo 400 is a Stage 4 build and can handle 1,900 ft lbs of torque. The torque converter has a 3,500 stall. The trans is kept cool with dual coolers with fans.
The shock package consists of King 4.0 Pure Race Series Piggyback Bypass shocks at all 4 corners. The rear also has King 2.5 Performance Series Coil-Over Piggyback Reservoir shocks with 4.0 King Kong bypasses. Trailing arms are by Race Crafters and swing up to 32”. Front wheel travel is 26”.
The driveline consists of a custom 1410 driveshaft with HD billet slip yoke, full floater Extreme Duty RSI 9” housing with additional back and top braces, plus horizontal upper link box, new 3rd member by Evan Weller Racing, and custom RCV 40 spline 300M axles that are heat treated (have a new spare set). 3rd member houses 5.13 Motive Gear set and spool. Wheel package includes KMC Machete Crawl 17x9 beadlocks with 39” KR2 Projects (Kevlar) with one race on them in Laughlin.
Power steering was upgraded to a Sweet Manufacturing 1,450 psi pump with a Howe ram. ¾” 4130 tig welded steering brackets with ¾” bolts, chromoly tie rods. Steering linkage is 1.25” drilled and tapped heavy wall chromoly swing set.
Cooling is handled by a custom CBR radiator with dual fans and power steering heat exchanger.
Fuel is housed in a 32 gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell with a separate 5 gal. transfer fuel cell with its own pump. It can be pumped into the main tank or externally. Main fuel pump is an Aeromotive A1000 with 3 filters. Corbeau seats and Crowe 5 point harnesses keep you in place, while the dual Parker Pumpers keep the fresh air flowing. Floors are constructed from 3/16 aluminum. AutoMeter gauges tell you what’s happening and the Lowerance tells you where you’re going. Vision X 6” HID lights and dual LED light bars keep it sunny at night. Code 3 ambulance siren will be ready when you blast by the competition. Other cool stuff includes two SP9100 switch panel power systems, redundant power for ignition, radiator and trans fans, custom Milwaukee impact wrench mount in passenger footwell, tire pressure monitors, an access panel on trans tunnel, and a one piece Raptor front end by McNeil Racing.
