“Weatherman” — Kreger 4-Seat Prerunner
The First Car Derek Kreger Ever Built
Asking: $80,000 — Michael Goldman 801-608-1664
This is a genuine piece of Kreger history. This 4-seat prerunner—affectionately known as “Bob” or “The Weatherman”—was the very first Kreger Fabrication Build, fabricated around 2002 for the legendary Weatherman himself. If you know desert racing, you know the name. Please read the full ad and look through all the photos before calling.
The Story
Derek built this car around 2002 for Bob (the Weatherman), and it stayed with Bob and Scott until I bought it in 2017. It needed a major redo, so I handed it back to Derek Kreger and had him make it a modern car from the ground up.
Here’s the key part: even though it was originally built in 2002, it’s really a 2017. All four corners were chopped off and rebuilt to be identical to a modern Kreger Class 10 car. The drivetrain was pulled and replaced, the fuel cell upgraded, the cooling system completely cut out and redone, and roof racks added. I put $50,000 into getting this car into the condition it’s in today. She runs smooth as silk.
Why I’m Selling
Honestly, it just sits. I bought it for prerunning in Mexico, and I don’t go to Mexico anymore—most stateside races don’t have prerunning. It’s been maintained by my pit boss in my shop right alongside the rest of my stable, so it’s in top mechanical shape. I feel bad that it sits and isn’t used for what it was built for. Someone should be out enjoying this car. I also run Class 1 now, and have a Kreger Class 1 Prerunner frame, so Id like to build that out over time as well.
A Rolling Parts Bin for Any Kreger Class 10 Owner
If you already own a Kreger Class 10 race car, this prerunner is a no-brainer. Because the four corners were rebuilt to modern Kreger Class 10 geometry, the axles, A-arms, trailing arms, hubs, and CVs are all identical to the Class 10 car. That makes Weatherman not just a great prerunner and pit vehicle, but a rolling spare-parts bank for your race program—show up to a race with backup for nearly every corner component you might need.
